About this website
Scibowl Infinite is a practice tool for Science Bowl competitors built on official sample questions. Every question includes a full explanation of the concept behind the answer.
The DOE National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition for middle and high school students. This site includes all 17 official NSB High School practice sets released by the Department of Energy, spanning 2007–2022. That's 11,722 toss-up and bonus questions across six topics: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space, Math, and Energy. Every question is classified into a subtopic, enabling targeted drilling within a topic area.
The Ocean Sciences Bowl is a program of the Center for Ocean Leadership, focused entirely on ocean science. This set of official sample questions includes 672 questions covering physical oceanography, marine biology, ocean chemistry, marine geology, geography, marine policy, social sciences, and technology.
Explanations
Every question on this website has a written explanation — something the original practice sets don't include. Short answer questions get a 2–4 sentence explanation that defines the core concept and flags the common confusions and traps competitors encounter.
Multiple choice questions get a per-choice explanation for every option: why the correct answer is right, and why each wrong answer is wrong — including the specific misconception each distractor targets. A Key Concept box summarizes the formula or principle the question was testing and how a strong competitor would approach it.
Questions are classified into subtopics — Genetics & Heredity, Organic Chemistry, Nuclear Physics, Calculus, Stellar Evolution, and dozens more — so you can identify weak areas and drill exactly what you need.
Modes
Practice — Self-paced. Filter by topic and subtopic. Each toss-up is followed by a bonus question on a correct answer. Submit an answer, get the explanation immediately.
Quiz — A full 24-question competition round. Questions read out word by word at competition pace; buzz to answer. Keeps score throughout. Full per-question review with explanations at the end.
Competition — Live 1-vs-1 or team play over a real-time connection. Create a room, share the 4-digit code, compete head-to-head with full buzzer rules and interrupt penalties.
Tells — A pattern-recognition study aid, separate from the other three modes. Each subject page distills real wording and structure patterns mined from the actual question set.
How this was built
Scibowl Infinite was built with the assistance of Claude Code. The question text was parsed from the original official PDF files. Each explanation was written by Claude (Anthropic's AI) with the question, answer, and topic in context. The subtopic classification — discovering and mapping each question to a subtopic — was also done by Claude.
This site may contain mistakes. Question text parsed from PDFs can have formatting errors, garbled symbols, or missing content. AI-written explanations may contain factual inaccuracies or imprecise language. Answer checking uses fuzzy matching and may occasionally accept wrong answers or reject correct ones. Subtopic classifications may be misassigned.
